Joey Barnes and Chris Daughtry

Like Daughtry himself, Joey Barnes is a Greensboro, North Carolina native where dhe returns whenever not touring with the band to remain close by his heavily musical family. His dad, in fact, a drummer himself for the a beach music variety act The Magnificents, once built Barnes a drum set.

Prior to joining up with Chris for the album and tour that keeps breaking records, he played drums for Stuck Without a Voice and the Patrick Rock Band. He was also lead vocalist for the Suicide Darlings (also known as (Seven and the Deadlys).

Born on August 13, 1976, the eldest of 3 brothers, Joey is a graduate of Vandalia Christian School, after which he spent a single semester at Liberty University before deciding that music was his life’s calling.

Ironically enough, Joey once competed against future bandmate Daughtry in a local Battle of the Bands (this while Chris was working at a Honda Dealership). They both found an easy rapport and a quick respect for one another, a formula that, in hindsight, might have foreshadowed their wildly successful collaboration years later.

Both Barnes and Daughtry also went to the same audition for Rock Star: INXS. Joey made it to the top 50 of that show before being eliminated, a fate he looks back on with relief.

A devout Beatles fan, Joey also cites on his MySpace page: The Strange Death and Rebirth of Joey Barnes, the following influences on his life and music: MUM AND DAD, GRANDPARENTS, DURAN DURAN, MORRISSEY, TEARS FOR FEARS, STING AND THE POLICE, U2, MIKE PATTON, FRANK SINATRA, NAT KING COLE, HARRY CONNICK JR., SADE, MAGNET, JEFF BUCKLEY, OURS, A-HA, GEORGE MICHAEL, BJORK, THE BEACH BOYS, RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, ALL CLASSICAL MUSIC, IRON ON T-SHIRTS, THE 80′S, MOULIN ROUGE, GOONIES, RED DAWN, STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, MAGNOLIA, FIGHT CLUB, SOUTH PARK, FAMILY GUY, WILL FERRELL, DANE COOK, EDDIE IZZARD, MITCH HEDBERG, ODD NUMBERS THAT ARE AN EVEN AMOUNT APART, COFFEE, POETRY, ART, AMBITION, BOHEMIANS, THE BLACK PANTHERS, THE SKINHEADS, ATHIESTS, FASCISM, COMMUNISM, FIDEL CASTRO, MLK, JESUS, LUCIFER, ANYONE WHO HATES THE BUSH EMPIRE, THE FLAG BURNER, THE PROTESTER, REBELS, GREASERS, GOOD TEETH, HEAVY PETTING, BOOBIES, FRENCH KISSING, PIERCING EYES, PLUMP LIPS, IMAGINATION, THE BEATLES AND DID I MENTION THE BEATLES!”

And apparently, like so many of us, Joey is also a certifiable chocoholic.

Joey loves his fans almost as much as they love him, with a reputation spread web-wide for making quick and personal replies to each of his fans’ MySpace messages.

You can find a number of streaming audios of rare non-Daughtry and pre-Daughtry Joey Barnes tracks there on his MySpace page, as well as a completely different assortment of his tunes available for free download from the Joey Barnes Management site.

And for all those single ladies dying to know their chances with the Barnestormer, Joey is the only unmarried member of Daughtry.
