So close, yet so far…

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Well, Daughtry played in my area the other night at the Seneca Niagara Casino and I couldn’t go. I know, I know, it’s sad. I wanted to go but it didn’t work out. Besides, I saw them over the summer when they came to the Erie County Fair so I don’t feel that bad about it (or at least that what I’m saying to make myself feel better). It kills me that they were so close and I wasn’t there!

Here are some pictures from the show though:

Now, that I’ve brought it up I need to get this off my chest.
Like I said, I went to see Daughtry at the Erie County Fair in August. I was in the 4th row and I was so excited to see them. They were absolutely amazing. They completely lived up to my expectations, they were so awesome live. And the crowd just went absolutely wild all night. They loved them! I went with a group of friends and we all agreed it was an amazing show (besides the fact that I was directly in front of the speakers and my ears were ringing for 2 days because it was so loud… it was worth it)
So, anyways, the next day people come up to me and ask me how the show was, and I was all excited and tell them my whole story and how awesome they were yada yada yada. Every single person responds with ‘Really? They got a really bad review in the paper.’
So, I immediately went to the store and bought a paper to see what they were talking about. Sure enough, I open the entertainment section and there’s an article about the show. The title is “Daughtry, playing to a full house, is well received.”
Now to me, that indicates two things, it was a sold out or close to sold out show, and the people there really enjoyed it. Am I wrong? I mean what else could the title suggest?
I start to read the article and the guy is just blasting them! I mean, really ripping them apart! The first sentence is: “For the life of me, I can’t understand the appeal of Chris Daughtry.”
That in itself is just completely unbelievable to me. You can’t understand the appeal of Daughtry? What is this The Twilight Zone?
Need I remind this man that Daughtry has sold over 4 million albums worldwide? Can 4 million people be wrong but a single writer at the Buffalo News be right?
And throughout the article he writes about how much the crowd loved them and how much he hates them and doesn’t understand why people like them.
As an attendee of the show I was fully disgusted by this man’s so called “review” of the show. Just write what you see, give me a recap and let me move on with my life. It angered me so much that 3 months later I’m writing about it with hate in my heart.

OK that’s my rant for the day. Moral of the story: Don’t listen to fat, bald, old, grumpy men who don’t know what they’re talking about.

Daughtry came Home!

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Well, Daughtry is back in the good old USA. And what better way to celebrate coming home than a show with BON JOVI!!! Sorry, I had to capitalize that to show just how excited I am about that. Daughtry opened for Bon Jovi November 4th and they are going to be together again at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on November 7th. I wish more than anything that I could witness this but alas, there is no way. Bon Jovi and Daughtry on the same stage? How could it get any better? Well, I guess it could but not without getting extremely fantastical.

Daughtry and Bon Jovi

Also, Daughtry was a guest on TRL yesterday! Sorry I couldn’t give more notice for that appearance but I was experiencing technical difficulties over the weekend (AKA my internet was not hooked up, don’t get me started)
But, you can vote for their video “Over You” on TRL HERE

Daughtry has some exciting news regarding their American Music Award performance that will air live on November 18th, 2007 at 8pm EST on ABC.
They are looking for their fans to send in home videos set to their song “Home” so they can create a video montage dedicated to their fans to play on the big screen behind them as they perform. Want to be a part of that? You can find all the information HERE

Speaking of the American Music Awards, they are starting something new this year. For the first time, you can now text in your vote for Artist of the Year and yep, you guessed it, Daughtry is one of the candidates. Other candidates are: Akon, Fergie, Norah Jones and Carrie Underwood. (ooh some American Idol competition here)
Voting started yesterday so you can now text in your vote.

Here’s the official information:

The nominees were chosen from different genres of music and were the top names in each category based on sales and airplay from January-Septemer 2007 in the United States.

T-Mobile USA subscribers can send a text message using their T-Mobile phones by sending the letter corresponding to their favorite artist (”A” for Akon, “B” for Daughtry, “C” for Fergie, “D” for Norah Jones, “E” for Carrie Underwood) to short code “AMA” (262). Standard text messaging chages apply to text messaging an entry.

Voting via text message and on ABC.com is now open and will conclude at approximately 9:30 pm ET, during the show on November 18th.

You can also vote online HERE

And last but not least, check out Chris’ new video blog:

Daughtry is Everywhere!

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

In case you were saying to yourself, ‘Oh no! I really wanted to bid $1000 on Chris’ ONE T-shirt and now it’s too late!’ Cheer up my friend. They have extended the bidding on the celebrity designed T-shirts to benefit the 2007 ONE Campaign until November 2, 2007 at 5pm EST. So, you still have a chance! Hurry!

Long pointless story time (so get cozy):
OK, you may remember that I mentioned before that Justin Timberlake was taking over the world, right? Well, I think Daughtry is now in the process of attaining world domination as well. Don’t believe me? Silly, you say?
I give you Exhibit A; Daughtry stalking me:
I was minding my own business listening to the radio on my way to work and “Home” came on the radio (how apropos, because I really, really did want to turn around and go back home) no big deal. I get to work, and go into the store in my building to get breakfast; “It’s Not Over” is playing in there, so what.
I was also listening to Daughtry throughout the day at work but that was my own fault.
So, then when I finally got to leave my prison AKA my job, I get in the car and “It’s Not Over” comes on as soon as I turn the car on. THEN I had to get gas and when I went in the store to pay, “Over You” is playing in the store.
So, you see, no matter where I was, Daughtry was there. They are clearly stalking me trying to brain-wash me… or something like that.

Now, in defense of Justin’s plight for world domination, I can pretty much turn on the radio at any point in time throughout the day and “Until the End of Time” WILL be playing… guaranteed. So Daughtry has a fight ahead of them.

Now as a prize for reading that entire rant, I give you some pretty pictures:
Chris Daughtry at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

These are the guys at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida last month.
First of all, Chris is drop dead gorgeous. I’m sorry, but it’s true.
Second of all, his T-shirt is AMAZING! I love it.

Miscellaneous updates and reminders in the world of Daughtry…

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

There is a new video blog all the way from Switzerland from Josh Paul! Click HERE to watch it and see his goofiness. LOL Happy Halloween!

Also, Click here to see Daughtry’s performance at the 2007 TMF Awards in Amsterdam.
Although I’ve clearly never heard of the TMF (The Music Factory) Awards, and I’m assuming you haven’t either, apparently they are the biggest popular music awards in Belgium and the Netherlands. So…Go Daughtry. It’s all part of world domination.

Speaking of awards, don’t forget to vote for Daughtry for the American Music Awards! Voting ends November 2, 2007 at 3am ET!
Click HERE for the details, in case you’ve forgotten.

Daughtry on VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown
In other news, Daughtry will be a guest on VH1’s Top 20 Video Countdown on December 8, 2007! Their video “Over You” has been #1 on the countdown for the past few weeks, so GO VOTE and keep them at #1 through December!

Haven’t seen the video or just want to see it again…and again. Here you go:

I love the close ups when he stares into the camera…it’s very hypnotizing…

Also, today is the last day to bid on the signed T-shirt Chris designed to benefit the ONE campaign. The bid is already up to $786!!! Craziness. The celebrity T-shirt with the next highest bid is Gwyneth Paltrow’s which is going for $255. Who knew that Chris was so popular that he would put Gwyneth and Ben Affleck to shame. But, lest we forget, this is all for charity so none of that matters right? Hehe
Again, in case you need the details, click HERE

Well, there’s a lot going on in the world of Daughtry. I’ll do my best to keep you up to date and remind you of all the important upcoming appearances.

Daughtry in Europe

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Daughtry is making its way across Europe!
According to their tour schedule, they will be visiting France, the UK, Switzerland, the Netherlands and ending in Germany on November 2nd.

Here’s Chris during a visit to a radio station in Paris, France this week:
Chris Daughtry at a radio station in Paris, France
Click HERE to see more pictures

I know I alluded to their tiring schedule in a previous blog but they have been touring non-stop since the beginning of the year!
Can you imagine being on the road in a tour bus for a year… there’s no way.

I remember they performed in Times Square on New Year’s Eve and they pretty much haven’t stopped since. I was actually in NYC for New Year’s but I was no where near close enough to see them. I watched it on TV just like the rest of the world. But New Year’s Eve in NYC was such a blast!! OK, I’m getting off topic now.

Well, since we’re already way off topic (New Year’s Eve in October?) I may as well run with it. Here’s the video of Daughtry performing in Times Square on New Year’s Eve last year…kind of a stretch but we’re back on topic!

*Sigh* brings back such good memories.

Anyways, Daughtry has tour dates on their website through the end of the year. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see them yet this year, check and see if they’re coming to a city near you.

If you sign up for Daughtry’s mailing list you will receive e-mails that will keep you updated on upcoming tour dates and even give you access to the passwords to get pre-sale tickets.

Take me out to the ball game…

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

In case you missed the “Rocktober is here” blog, Daughtry has teamed up with MLB.com for the 2007 post season.
Throughout October…or “Rocktober” I suppose, MLB.com has featured Daughtry’s songs in their highlights and promotional videos.

MLB World Series 2007 Baseball

Well, now the World Series is here and it’s time to take it to the next level. MLB.com has a ton of Daughtry exclusives including: “A day in the life of Daughtry” video, interviews, and live performances!

Find out who their favorite teams are, see what it’s really like on the road, see Chris without his shirt on…you know, all the good stuff.

Check it out HERE (Believe me you don’t wanna miss out on this. Let me just say one word before I move on…gorgeous. I know, I know that’s very fan girly but really…just amazingly gorgeous)

Can you imagine being on tour for as long as they have been? Must be very tiring.
Chris Daughtry Life on the Road Sleeping

And can you believe the Red Sox made it to the World Series?!? Unbelievable! Of course they had to give everyone a heart attack to make it, but whatever it takes I suppose.

And coincidentally, my other obsession is also teamed up with MLB for the post season, Dane Cook! Gotta love baseball this year. They know how to pick those talented, gorgeous men.
Dane Cook Boston Red Sox Baseball hat MLB

Here’s a little Daughtry/Dane Cook Fun Fact:
Did you know that Chris thanks Dane Cook in the “Thank you” section of his CD? Yep. Right after Billy Bob Thorton and Tobey Maguire…you have to wonder what these people did to make in into the “thank yous” ya know?

Chris Daughtry supports 2007 ONE Campaign

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Brand new info posted on Daughtry’s official website!
Chris Daughtry wearing his ONE T-shirt

Chris Daughtry, as well as Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Courtney Love and other celebs, has designed and signed a T-shirt that is being auctioned off to benefit the ONE Campaign.

These T-shirts are made by EDUN, a “socially conscious” clothing company which has a mission to create high quality clothing while providing employment in developing countries.
All proceeds will benefit the ONE Campaign to flight global poverty and AIDS.
Bidding ends October 30th. Let the bidding wars begin!
Current bid (at the time of this post): $338

This is Chris’ original design:
Chris Daughtry supports ONE Campaign
To place a bid on the T-shirt Chris designed and signed go HERE

To see other celebrity T-shirt designs go HERE

Just goes to show how much everyone loves Chris. His T-shirt seems to be the most popular and is already over $300. Ben Affleck’s is only at $90 so far, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s is only at $57! Seems a little odd, but it’s great that Chris is using his popularity to bring some interest to the campaign.
Hopefully the bids go up a lot more since it’s for such a good cause.

Can’t afford to bid? You can still get a 2007 ONE Campaign T-shirt by EDUN at the ONE online store for only $40.
Although it won’t be the celebrity design, $10 of every purchase goes right to the ALAFA (Apparel Lesotho Alliance for Africa) Fund, which provides life-saving AIDS treatment to factory workers and their family members.

For more information on the 2007 ONE campaign go to ONE.org

Daughtry gets 3 nominations for the American Music Awards!

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Here’s some very exciting news that you may or may not have heard yet…

Daughtry was nominated for 3 American Music Awards!!!
(That’s one exclamation point for each nomination)
Daughtry nominated for 3 American Music Awards
*Favorite Album (Pop or Rock)
Up against: Linkin Park/Minutes To Midnight and Justin Timberlake/FutureSex/Love Sounds

This one we may have a little trouble with because, I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not, but Justin Timberlake is in the process of taking over the world

*Favorite Artist (Adult Contemporary Music)
Up Against: Norah Jones and John Mayer

This one should be a no-brainer, I mean come on.
By the way, am I the only one who thinks that John Mayer is absolutely, hideously, disgusting? *shudder*

*Favorite Breakthrough Artist
Up against: Plain White T’s and Robin Thicke

I think it’s blatantly obvious Daughtry deserves this one but apparently Robin Thicke is pretty popular as well…In my opinion, he looks too much like his Dad, Alan Thicke, and every time I see him singing all I can hear is the theme song for Growing Pains.
As long as we got each other da da da da… sorry

And get this, for the first time in history you can vote to determine the winner!
Just go HERE, register, and vote for Daughtry!!
Voting ends November 2, 2007 at 3am ET

The 35th Annual American Music Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel (Whom I adore! He is hilarious) and will air live Sunday, November 18th at 8pm EST on ABC.
Jimmy Kimmel hosts the American Music Awards
And…Daughtry will be performing live! Other confirmed performers include Celine Dion (huh? Where did that come from?), Fergie and Rihanna.

Daughtry is tied with Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Linkin Park for the most nominations this year.

For all list of all this year’s nominee’s click HERE

So, go vote now! Daughtry deserves to win them all!

Rocktober is here!

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

As you may have noticed this blog has been on a kind of hiatus for the last month or so. And, as you may have also noticed, there has been a change of writers, but that is neither here nor there. We all know why we’re here: to discuss, inform, listen to, watch, and let’s be honest, drool over this man, Chris Daughtry:
Chris Daughtry

So, let’s get down to business, we have a lot to catch up on. Besides writing about the news and any new, juicy, interesting details I come across, we will also have to catch up on some news in the recent past so we can look back on this 10 years from now and reminisce about the good times we had…or something like that.

I can also guarantee you that we will be having some American Idol flashbacks creeping up now and then because we all know that without American Idol, this healthy obsession (or at least that’s what I like to call it) would not be possible.

So keep checking back here at www.chrisdaughtry-fan.info for your Daughtry fixes.

Now to the good stuff:
God Bless America! Baseball, Apple Pie, and Daughtry?
Well, he was on American Idol…makes perfect sense to me.
Daughtry is being featured on MLB.com for Rocktober! Three of Daughtry’s songs are being used in their promotional videos for highlights and previews of the 2007 postseason games: “What I Want”, “Breakdown” and “There and Back Again”.
For more details and links to these videos go HERE
You have to check them out. They are very cool. Makes you proud to be an American… and a Daughtry fan.

Although the Cubs are out of the running for the World Series, here’s a little fun fact for you. During an interview, the pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Will Ohman (who is a devoted American Idol fan…who knew?) was asked:

What’s the biggest travesty in “American Idol” history?
“Chris Daughtry not winning,” Ohman said.

A man after my own heart. Although, I do think Constantine Maroulis getting kicked off 6th in Season 4 was a travesty as well.

Alright, I can’t discuss baseball anymore because it gets me all upset. Let’s just say I was rooting for the NY Mets…need I say more?

Click HERE for a blog with all the baseball updates one could hope for. (Go Red Sox)

Daughtry to Perform at University of Alabama Homecoming

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Chris Daughtry at the GRAMMYs

In apparent response to rising student complaints about the mediocre quality of the annual homecoming concert entertainment, this year the University of Alabama has booked none other than Daughtry to play at this year’s event.

This will be the first homecoming concert since Alan Jackson’s appearance in 1998 where students will have to pay to attend. But you can be sure, scant few are complaining. And why would they. Tickets for them are but a token $10 (for everyone else: $30). This will also be the first UA homecoming concert since then to be held indoors, at the Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama is a big state for American Idol alumn, having brought to the public’s awareness:

But though Taylor Hicks may have won the Season 5 crown, Chris Daughtry has won the worldwide rock star status and acclaim the others have only dreamed of, with a debut album that is still the number one best-selling album of the year, one year AFTER it was released!

The 2007 UA Homecoming Concert featuring Daughtry will be held on October 5.

So here it is: the AOL Music webcast of Daughtry Live at the Las Vegas Red Rock.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

So without further ado, here they are. Rock out!

Spotlight on Joey Barnes: Profile of Daughtry’s Drummer

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Joey Barnes and Chris Daughtry

Like Daughtry himself, Joey Barnes is a Greensboro, North Carolina native where dhe returns whenever not touring with the band to remain close by his heavily musical family. His dad, in fact, a drummer himself for the a beach music variety act The Magnificents, once built Barnes a drum set.

Prior to joining up with Chris for the album and tour that keeps breaking records, he played drums for Stuck Without a Voice and the Patrick Rock Band. He was also lead vocalist for the Suicide Darlings (also known as (Seven and the Deadlys).

Born on August 13, 1976, the eldest of 3 brothers, Joey is a graduate of Vandalia Christian School, after which he spent a single semester at Liberty University before deciding that music was his life’s calling.

Ironically enough, Joey once competed against future bandmate Daughtry in a local Battle of the Bands (this while Chris was working at a Honda Dealership). They both found an easy rapport and a quick respect for one another, a formula that, in hindsight, might have foreshadowed their wildly successful collaboration years later.

Both Barnes and Daughtry also went to the same audition for Rock Star: INXS. Joey made it to the top 50 of that show before being eliminated, a fate he looks back on with relief.

A devout Beatles fan, Joey also cites on his MySpace page: The Strange Death and Rebirth of Joey Barnes, the following influences on his life and music: MUM AND DAD, GRANDPARENTS, DURAN DURAN, MORRISSEY, TEARS FOR FEARS, STING AND THE POLICE, U2, MIKE PATTON, FRANK SINATRA, NAT KING COLE, HARRY CONNICK JR., SADE, MAGNET, JEFF BUCKLEY, OURS, A-HA, GEORGE MICHAEL, BJORK, THE BEACH BOYS, RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, ALL CLASSICAL MUSIC, IRON ON T-SHIRTS, THE 80′S, MOULIN ROUGE, GOONIES, RED DAWN, STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, MAGNOLIA, FIGHT CLUB, SOUTH PARK, FAMILY GUY, WILL FERRELL, DANE COOK, EDDIE IZZARD, MITCH HEDBERG, ODD NUMBERS THAT ARE AN EVEN AMOUNT APART, COFFEE, POETRY, ART, AMBITION, BOHEMIANS, THE BLACK PANTHERS, THE SKINHEADS, ATHIESTS, FASCISM, COMMUNISM, FIDEL CASTRO, MLK, JESUS, LUCIFER, ANYONE WHO HATES THE BUSH EMPIRE, THE FLAG BURNER, THE PROTESTER, REBELS, GREASERS, GOOD TEETH, HEAVY PETTING, BOOBIES, FRENCH KISSING, PIERCING EYES, PLUMP LIPS, IMAGINATION, THE BEATLES AND DID I MENTION THE BEATLES!”

And apparently, like so many of us, Joey is also a certifiable chocoholic.

Joey loves his fans almost as much as they love him, with a reputation spread web-wide for making quick and personal replies to each of his fans’ MySpace messages.

You can find a number of streaming audios of rare non-Daughtry and pre-Daughtry Joey Barnes tracks there on his MySpace page, as well as a completely different assortment of his tunes available for free download from the Joey Barnes Management site.

And for all those single ladies dying to know their chances with the Barnestormer, Joey is the only unmarried member of Daughtry.

Much of the research for this Joey Barnes bio came from:
