American Idol Tour 2008

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I know, I know. I haven’t updated in a while but we’ve been having some technical difficulties so hopefully everything is back on track and I should be more up to date with Daughtry Land.

But in related news, a couple friends and I went to go see the American Idol Show in Toronto last week and I thought I’d give a review on it.

First of all, Daughtry was very present at the show. They played, I think, 4 or 5 of his songs before the show started and during the intermission, and they also played the music video for “Feels Like Tonight” so that was pretty cool.

I had a blast at the show. It was really fun hanging out with my friends and going to concerts is always an exciting event. Of course the highlight of the show was seeing Michael Johns, who was absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to see what he does when the tour is over.

All that being said… This was the 6th year that I have gone to the American Idol show (I know that’s pathetic but I can’t resist) and this was THE WORST show yet.
I found that very strange because this year there were some really great people and I thought they would put on a great show. I will say, it wasn’t their fault, it was whoever put the set list together. It was so boring and it made for a very uninteresting concert.
All they did was have each finalist sing three songs in the order they got kicked off starting with #10, Chikezie. Well, actually David Archuleta sang 4 songs and David Cook sang 5 songs and they had two extremely LAME and short group songs; one before intermission and one at the very end and that was it. Horrible.

In years pasts they have done plenty of group songs, girl group songs, guy group songs, special duets and trios, dancing, audience participation… all kinds of fun things that made the show really exciting. This year was a total bust. I feel sorry for the Top 10 because they got screwed out of an awesome tour. Apparently the powers that be got really, really lazy this year. Yikes.

However, even though the concert was poorly put together, each finalist did a really awesome job. Well, except maybe Ramielle… she wasn’t that great.

Oh! And the icing on the cake, they didn’t even give us Pop-tarts this year! They usually pass out new flavors of Pop-tarts in the lobby after the show. This year: No Pop-tarts. It was all very sad.

Clearly, none of this will stop me from going to the show next year. American Idol controls my life.

American Idol hates me

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Well, this is hard evidence. Not only does every single one of my favorites become the “shocker elimination” of the season, now David Cook, who I’ve hated since his audition, wins the whole thing.
If I wasn’t so ridiculously addicted to this show I would never watch it again. But we all know that’s never gonna happen.

Despite the outcome, the finale was actually pretty entertaining. I think my favorite part of the show was when Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. were the Pips. That was hilarious!

And of course I got to see my real American Idol for the season, Michael Johns. And he was as amazing as ever.

Michael Johns, the American Idol

On Tuesday night when they were doing the whole boxing theme did anyone else notice the part where they asked “Who will be the next to win the title?” and then they showed pictures of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and CHRIS DAUGHTRY?!
Do I need to remind them that Chris didn’t actually win? Instead they sacrificed him so they could have a shocking elimination. This just shows how much they regret letting him go (because we all know this show is rigged). I personally think that part of the reason David Cook won this year was because they are trying to make up for losing out on Daughtry now that they see how successful he has been. But needless to say, David Cook is NO Chris Daughtry.

Anyways, I will say one good thing about David Cook, his Guitar Hero commercial was really good. So much better than the Archuleta version.

Well, another season of American Idol has come and gone. I will be waiting with bated breath for the next season to begin (as much as I hate to admit it… that’s actually a true statement).

Daughtry is #1… again

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

OK I know I haven’t updated in a while but things have been crazy… or I’ve just been in mourning over the loss of Michael Johns on American Idol; you decide.

I can’t believe this season is almost over! Next week is the finale! Where does the time go?
So, David Cook and David Archuleta… I would have never picked those two.
It really angers me to the core that the one guy I have hated since DAY ONE (click here for proof) is at the finale.
Was I not clear on how much I hate him? Don’t even get me started.

Anyways, enough about American Idol. Let’s talk about Chris for a hot second.

While I was off doing God only knows what, Daughtry was actually going on without me (what?)
So here are a few updates:

Daughtry Album cover

Big news for Daughtry!
Daughtry’s “Feels Like Tonight” reached #1 on the Billboard Chart. Now they are the first group to have three #1 singles from a debut album AND also the only other group, besides Nickelback, to have three #1 singles from a single album.
The other #1’s: “It’s Not Over” and “Home.”

ALSO, Daughtry’s debut album has now been certified 4x platinum! That’s 4 million copies sold!

That is so amazing! I’m so proud of these guys. They are so successful and I’m so happy for them. They deserve it.

On another note, I am going to see New Kids on the Block in September in Toronto and I’m not even gonna pretend that I’m not ridiculously excited about it.

New Kids on the Block Reunited

The only thing that would make this better is if Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch were opening up for them but no such luck… apartently Mark Wahlberg has better things to do. Whatever.
I think I may have a huge crush on both Donnie and Mark Wahlberg… is that legal?
Oh well, there’s nothing I can do about it at this point.

Mark Wahlberg is hot
Donnie Wahlberg is hot

Daughtry Gives Back, and American Idol takes away

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

So I hope you all got to see Daughtry on American Idol last week for Idol Gives Back. I really enjoyed the show. Did you see Dane Cook?! I love him. He was only on for like 1 minute though. Oh well, I guess it’s better than nothing.

It was so awesome to see Brad Pitt introduce Daughtry as “the biggest selling band of last year”. As if we didn’t know just how amazing Daughtry is, I think this proves it.
I’m not a big fan of Brad Pitt but I’ve heard he’s popular…

“What About Now” is one of my favorite Daughtry songs and I loved the way he sang it for the show. A perfect fit for the spirit of the evening.

Here’s a video of the whole thing (even the Brad Pitt intro) for those who missed it:

And of course, on Thursday, the worst thing ever happened… Michael Johns was eliminated! I’m so disgusted with this show. Every single time I really love a contestant they end up being the shocker elimination of the season! It sucks so bad.
Constantine Maroulis, Chris Daughtry and now Michael Johns.
My friend said I had the kiss of death. I guess that must be true LOL
Why do I put myself through this every year?

Well, getting back on track. Chris wrote a letter that I got in my e-mail (since I am on the ONE.org mailing list) promoting the cause for ONE.org and talking about their trip to Uganda. Read the rest of the entry below to see Chris’ letter and see what you can do to support the ONE campaign.

Beatles night…again

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

So, week 2 of Beatles night was needless to say, not nearly as good as the first week… which also wasn’t that good.

The Beatles theme on American Idol

When Amanda sang “Back in the USSR” I was really excited because that song is on The White Album (which is my favorite Beatles album) so I thought they would pick some of my favorites to sing. Unfortunately the only other White Album song that was sung was “Blackbird” by Carly which I did not enjoy.

I thought the best of the night was David Archuleta. But I also really enjoyed Michael Johns. I don’t know what the judges were hearing, because I also loved him last week when he sang “Across the Universe”. And for Simon to say it was a mess? I thought they were way too harsh on him.

Other than that everyone else just did OK. It was really not a very exciting night.

I was so happy that Simon told David Cook that he was smug and not as good as he thinks he is! Finally someone sees what I’ve seen since day one!

The results show was interesting. I’m so excited that Dane Cook is going to be involved in Idol Gives Back this year! Love him.
I thought the group song was really good. They sang all the good songs in the medley! They should have used those songs for their performances and then maybe it wouldn’t have sucked so badly!

I actually had no idea who was gonna go home because so many of them were just OK. Of course I was hoping that Kristy Lee would go home because I’m so sick of her! (And I knew there was no chance that David Cook was going home)

But I was a little disappointed to see Amanda go. I would have much rather seen her go on tour than Kristy! At least she’s different and interesting. But what do I know?

RIP Amanda Overmyer…

American Idol: Hello Goodbye

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

So it is the week we’ve been waiting for with bated breath… or not.
The week we found out whether the Top 12 would murder Lennon/McCartney songs or just sing them not as good as the original. I think we got a little bit of both.
So, why not let a group of “amateurs” tackle the greatest songs of all time? It’ll be good fun.

I actually really enjoyed the show! Love the new stage and the new look, it’s all very exciting.
The three performances I really loved? Chekezie (She’s a Woman), Brooke (Let it Be), and Michael (Across the Universe)
The three performances that sucked most? Kristy (Eight Days a Week), Syesha (Got to Get You Into My Life), and David Archuleta (We Can Work it Out)

I also really liked Amanda and Carly’s performances. And I also really did not like David Hernandez and Ramiele’s performances.

Here’s the video of Michael Johns’ performance because I just love the song “Across the Universe” and I thought he did a good job; I love his voice. Across the Universe was also a great movie but I digress.

I really wanted the bottom 3 to be: Kristy, Ramiele and Syesha… I almost got my wish
And I desperately wanted Kristy to go home! She was by far the worst of the night and is also by far the most irritating contestant on the show.

I was extremely disappointed that David Hernandez went home!!! First of all, I really liked him since the beginning and he had some really amazing performances. Second of all, now he’s not gonna be on the tour and Kristy has a chance of making the Top 10 and that just makes me sick.
He definitely had a bad performance last night but I don’t think he deserved to go home first.
I’m very sad… but I’ll get over it.
It’s not like is was Constantine Maroulis or Chris Daughtry getting kicked off but still.

RIP David Hernandez…

We have our Top 12… finally

Friday, March 7th, 2008

So, we are finally into the Top 12; the most important part of American Idol. Well, actually it would be the Top 10 because only they Top 10 tour (which it so ridiculous, don’t even get me started).

The girls did an OK job on Wednesday, again, nothing spectacular. I was glad that Amanda finally showed why anyone even liked her in the first place. And I really liked what Brooke did to “Love is a Battlefield”. Other than that I can’t really remember any of the girls.

American Idol Results

But I was very surprised by the results show! Very surprised.
Luke was beyond obvious but, I thought 100% for sure that Chikezie was gonna be gone. And then when they had in down to either him or Danny I was even more sure (if that’s even possible) and then all of a sudden Danny is gone? I was very shocked. I don’t like Danny but it seemed like a lot of other people did and nobody really cared about Chikezie… apparently I was wrong.

I was also surprised with the girls. Well, I knew, we all knew, that Kady was leaving… even Kady knew. But then Asia’h vs. Kristy Lee Cook (who I can’t stand) and Asia’h leaves?
Unbelievable. I really liked Asia’h from the beginning. I know she had a few questionable song choices but I was sad to see her go. And I can’t stand K.L.C. I think we’ve have enough blond country singers on this show, can we please move on?

And Blake Lewis was there to entertain us…
I don’t like him. I like his beat boxing but he is so cocky and I can’t watch him… Hmmm sounds a lot like someone on the show this season. *cough*DavidCook*cough*

Other than those few surprises, it was obvious that the rest were going through. We’ll see what happens on the rest of the show. I’m excited to see the new set! That should be interesting.

These are the best guys?

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

So yet again nobody is blowing me away. What is going on? There have always been some amazing performances in the early stages of the game and this year I’m caring less and less about these people.

I know that you all know that I’ve hated David Cook since day one. And I still do, but there’s something wrong when the one I hate the most is the only one who’s getting any better.
I will admit that if I don’t look at the TV when he’s singing and if I don’t listen to him talk after or watch his video before he sings, he’s tolerable.
I just hate that he acts so cocky and thinks he’s already a rock star and he’s doing everyone a favor by competing on this show. Grow up.
And his comb-over gets better and better every week too, so that’s a good thing.
I need to just get one thing perfectly straight here: David Cook is not the second coming of Chris Daughtry… end of story. He’s not even the second coming of Constantine Maroulis. Just had to throw that in there too.

Anyways, I really hope that Luke and Danny go home this week although I have a sad feeling Danny will be sticking around.
Luke is just so handsome but I can’t bear to listen to him anymore.

Michael Johns on American Idol

I had such high hopes for my Aussie friend and he’s just not stepping it up. On the up side, I do love listening to him talk so all is forgiven.

I would go on to talk about each person and their performance but I just don’t care! It’s so sad! I miss the good old days.

American Idol… Daughtry Gives Back!

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

So American Idol continued this week with their 70’s theme. Although very few people actually sang any good 70’s classics. Overall, again I wasn’t really blown away with anybody. Obviously David Archuleta was great and also David Hernandez. For the girls, Brooke was the best but they disappointed me this week. It’s weird because after seeing Hollywood week this year I thought it was gonna be a great year and now it’s just not living up to my expectations!

Anyways, the most interesting part of Idol this week was the results show. They were promoting the Idol Gives Back show for this year and they said that Daughtry is going to be a part of it! So that’s exciting! Something to look forward to this season. I really enjoy the show last year and I’m sure they’ll try to top that this year.
It will be on Wednesday, April 9th.

American Idol Gives Back

Also they said that the Lennon/McCartney songbook has been released to them this year. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. Clearly they have some amazing songs but at the same time I don’t really want to hear anyone butchering them either… I guess I could give them the benefit of the doubt.

I was so happy to see Robbie go, a little sad to see Jason go… he was so adorable.
I thought Cady should have gone instead of Alaina and I was so upset about Alexandrea leaving! I really liked her voice and I thought she’d get another chance… I guess not.
Oh well, onto the 80’s for this week coming up. That should be horrid. I hate 80’s music.

Catching up on American Idol

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

So I have a little catching up to do because I didn’t post about last week.

Did you catch that they used Daughtry’s song “What About Now” during the Top 24 montage last Thursday night? I love that song. Daughtry seems to be popping up a lot in the episodes this season.

So, maybe subconsciously I didn’t post about last week because I really wasn’t that impressed with anyone. The only one I really really liked last week was David Hernandez. The rest were just, eh.
I don’t like that they’re giving them themes so early in the season! Why are they doing this? Can’t we wait a few more weeks before we have to sit through horrible theme nights? Apparently not…

As I’ve said before, my favorites are: David Archuleta, David Hernandez, Michael Johns, Asia’h Epperson, Carly Smithson, and I’m giving Amanda Overmyer a chance… I’m still on the fence with her.

But anyways, I was very happy with the results last week. No big shocks, those people needed to go eventually so why not. There are a few other people I would love to see go soon, so I guess we’ll see.

As you all know, I cannot stand David Cook and I’m putting my foot down about it. Until he is gone I will not stop complaining about him. I honestly cannot even stand to watch him on my screen. It sickens me.
Note to David Cook: You are going bald. Get over and stop trying to hide it. It’s only resulting in the worst forward comb-over ever.

My sister actually said he reminded her of the “beard comb-over” guy in that Sierra Mist commercial!!!! I almost died laughing when she said that! LOL

You decide:
Sierra Mist Beard Comb Over

More American Idol Ranting

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

So this week was Hollywood week and it was so exciting! Hollywood week has always been my favorite because I think it’s the most interesting part of the show. They should definitely make it longer than one show! Especially considering all the hours of auditions we have to sit through! But what do I know?

American Idol Hollywood Week 2008

Anyways, if you read my previous rant, you know that I absolutely cannot stand David Cook. Well…my hate for him is only growing stronger.
Did you see him? He is such a cocky little punk! And for no good reason because I agreed with Simon and thought he sucked (I know you’re all surprised by that).
And even though I love Ryan Seacrest, I was very angry that he added fuel to the fire of my hatred by yet again comparing him to Chris Daughtry!!!
Is the the Twilight Zone people? He is no where NEAR as good as Chris on Chris’ worst day. I mean it’s just absurd to even hear their names in the same sentence!

I think he’s disgusting, he does not have a rock voice, he does not even have a good voice, he’s a cocky punk and he needs to go home. Our rocker for the year is that nurse girl who *gasp* actually has a rock voice and isn’t a poser moron.

Anyways, moving on…

There are a lot of really good people this year and I’m shocked. I thought for sure this year would suck as badly as last year. So far my favorites are: The Irish girl, Michael Johns (the Australian guy), the 16 year old guy, and David Hernandez. I also like the rocker chick and the girl who’s Dad died and the girl who’s never seen a rated R movie.
I feel bad describing them like that but I haven’t been paying much attention to names yet. We’ll see how it goes form here…

Oh, by the way, Josiah…stop crying and pull yourself together.

I was a little shocked that Josiah and the dorky kid didn’t make it through. Not because I liked them though so I’m over it.

American Idol Rant

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

So, have you been watching American Idol?
As I’m sure I’ve mentioned many times, I couldn’t stop watching American Idol if I wanted to. It’s just addicting. I can’t stop!

So, this week they talked about Daughtry for a little while. Did you catch it?
When they were doing the inevitable “Who will be this year’s rocker?” section of the auditions, they showed a clip of Daughtry’s new video “Feels Like Tonight” and talked about how Daughtry is one the biggest success stories to come out of American Idol. I personally think he is the absolute best.

Chris Daughtry on American Idol; Rocker

Now, when they picked their token rocker for this year, David Cook, they included a whole thing about how he is inspired by Chris Daughtry and he watched Chris’ audition to prepare for his own… blah, blah, blah.
You know who I’m talking about, the poser kid with the mohawk and the red streak in the front of his hair. I would post a picture of him but I don’t want to look at it every time I update my blog. Sorry if I’m being hateful and harsh but it really annoyed me that he played the Chris card and then sucked.

Dear David Cook,
You are nowhere near as good as Chris Daughtry. You should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Chris. You have no right to compare yourself to him or use his name so that people will like you. You are not even a rock singer. You are not as good as you think you are and you should not be butchering Bon Jovi songs. The only reason you are this year’s token rocker is because all the others ones that came out were horrible jokes.
Sincerely,
Chrisdaughtry-fan.info

I’m allowed to be like this because I take American Idol VERY seriously. Don’t mess with Chris Daughtry… or Bon Jovi for that matter.

American Idol… here we go again

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

American Idol
Well, American Idol is back for yet another season. There’s really no way they can find another Chris Daughtry, but hopefully they can at least find better people than they did last year.
I’ve been watching and it’s been thoroughly entertaining but so far nobody has really, really stood out. Although there were a few pretty good ones. It’s a little early but we’ll see how it goes. Then again I did love Chris from the second I saw his audition on the previews…

Anyways, I’m sure you’ve heard of the controversy surrounding Chris’ comments to Rolling Stone magazine, right?
If you haven’t, click HERE for a link to read the transcript and listen to the interview.
What he said was absolutely true and I don’t think he was saying it to put the show down or be nasty. I think he (like the rest of us) would like to see American Idol take it to the next level and step it up because obviously the talent they’re getting is declining from previous years. Sometimes the truth hurts…
