American Idol Flashback: Hollywood Week

by Laura

It’s that time again! Time for another American Idol Flashback… and I know you’re as excited as I am. I need to do this to remind me of when American Idol used to be good.

OK, we already reviewed Chris’ audition so it’s time to move onto Hollywood week! Personally, Hollywood week is one of my favorite episodes of the year. In my opinion they should cut out a week of crappy auditions and add a week to show extra footage from Hollywood week, but who am I to question the might empire of American Idol?

Here’s the video of Chris singing ‘The First Cut is the Deepest’. Clearly it’s not perfect but I love his performance! His voice is just amazing and I love how he puts his own twist on everything he sings. In American Idol vernacular he “makes it his own”.

And then this is the video of Chris’ group’s performance of ‘Emotions’ with Ace Young and some other guy named Bobby. I was never a fan of Ace Young. I know he was supposed to be the hottie of the year but he was a crappy singer and that annoyed me. He did have excellent hair though.
Anyways, again, I just love Chris’ voice! And only he could pull off a rock version of ‘Emotions’ :)

Hollywood week was when I realized that Chris was really gonna make it to the final few people. Because even though he had to sing songs that weren’t his style, he still sounded amazing and stood out compared to all the other people in the competition. Which is good because we all know American Idol pulls out some very random themes as the weeks go by. So even if the theme was, I don’t know, 70’s dance music or whatever ridiculous theme they come up with, at least we now knew that Chris could pull it off.

I’ve gotta go see if I can find some old AI tapes to re-watch. This is all bringing back memories *sigh*

Yikes…Ace was looking a little…I don’t know (where’s the siren emoticon?) in that second video. He was still nice to look at though. But Chris really did stand out in those auditions. It’s getting pretty close to the next season. Wonder if we’ll find another Chris in this group.

  2. Laura Says:

Hahaha! I was so distracted by Chris’ gorgeous manliness that my gaydar didn’t go off.
I always liked Ace when the TV was on mute.
Chris was/is so amazing… I doubt there will be a Chris on this season but who knows. I’ll be watching just in case.

  3. Doug Robertson Says:

Chris’s success is so well-deserved … love his music, so happy with the awards at the AMA thingy, and that he always brought the band with. Humble guy, cutie pie.

  4. Laura Says:

Doug- I agree! Chris is amazing. And definitely a “cutie pie” ;)
