American Idol Rant

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

So, have you been watching American Idol?
As I’m sure I’ve mentioned many times, I couldn’t stop watching American Idol if I wanted to. It’s just addicting. I can’t stop!

So, this week they talked about Daughtry for a little while. Did you catch it?
When they were doing the inevitable “Who will be this year’s rocker?” section of the auditions, they showed a clip of Daughtry’s new video “Feels Like Tonight” and talked about how Daughtry is one the biggest success stories to come out of American Idol. I personally think he is the absolute best.

Chris Daughtry on American Idol; Rocker

Now, when they picked their token rocker for this year, David Cook, they included a whole thing about how he is inspired by Chris Daughtry and he watched Chris’ audition to prepare for his own… blah, blah, blah.
You know who I’m talking about, the poser kid with the mohawk and the red streak in the front of his hair. I would post a picture of him but I don’t want to look at it every time I update my blog. Sorry if I’m being hateful and harsh but it really annoyed me that he played the Chris card and then sucked.

Dear David Cook,
You are nowhere near as good as Chris Daughtry. You should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Chris. You have no right to compare yourself to him or use his name so that people will like you. You are not even a rock singer. You are not as good as you think you are and you should not be butchering Bon Jovi songs. The only reason you are this year’s token rocker is because all the others ones that came out were horrible jokes.
Sincerely,
Chrisdaughtry-fan.info

I’m allowed to be like this because I take American Idol VERY seriously. Don’t mess with Chris Daughtry… or Bon Jovi for that matter.

Daughtry on PBS: Soundstage

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Here’s some very exciting news!

I just so happened to be searching around on tvguide.com which was very lucky because I stumbled upon something very interesting.
Tomorrow night, Daughtry will be featured on the PBS show, Soundstage. Now, I have never seen this show but in the past it has featured such artists as: Peter Frampton, John Fogerty, Rob Thomas, Jewel, John Mayer, and many other popular performers. So this is pretty exciting. Here are the details I found:

Soundstage
Premise: An outstanding music-performance series featuring in-studio concerts.
Episode: Daughtry
The rock band Daughtry, led by former “American Idol” contestant Chris Daughtry, showcases selections from its multiplatinum self-titled 2006 debut. Included: “Feels Like Tonight,” “Home,” “It’s Not Over” and “What I Want.”

So, it’s going to be an hour-long concert special! It sounds really exciting and I can’t wait to see it. I’m sure it’s going to be awesome.
So don’t miss it!

Soundstage: Daughtry
Tomorrow night! Thursday, January 31, 2008 on PBS at 10pm EST.

On another note, there is still lots of drama surrounding the Grammy awards. (I really wish this writer’s strike would end) It looks like the striking writers will not be picketing the event, which is a good thing. But, they still have not granted a waiver to allow Guild members to work on the show.
So, who knows what will happen. They are saying the Grammys will go on no matter what and the scheduled performers will be there. However, some of the artists may choose to not attend.
Hopefully, things will all work out.
And most importantly, hopefully Daughtry will take home some Grammys… at least that’s all I really care about.

I am upset that the Academy Awards will be ruined this year but that’s a whole ‘nother story.
Just give them what they want to we can watch TV again! Sorry, is that selfish?

Daughtry in National Treasure?

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

I was browsing on Yahoo! tonight, and there was a headline that said Daughtry’s song was cut from Blockbuster. So I clicked on it and it said that the Daughtry song “Feels Like Tonight” was written for and then cut from the new hit blockbuster National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Now we all know that the song was clearly NOT written for the movie since it is on their album that was released over a year ago. But it was indeed supposed to be in the end credits of the movie and was cut.

As a Daughtry fan and also a fan of the movie, I would have to say that was a good move. The song really has nothing to do at all with the movie, and does not fit at all with the theme of National Treasure. (Which by the way was a really good movie, even though I hate Nicholas Cage. I thought it was actually just as good as the first one, which is rare these days. The National Treasure movies are just so fun.)
But anyways, even though it would have been great to see Daughtry featured on the big screen, I think it was a very wise decision to leave it out.

Click HERE to read the article about it.

Also, here is the new music video for the song, “Feels Like Tonight”. Sorry I was a little late in posting it.

Very nice. Not really too much going on in the video but Chris is just so handsome, is he not?

In Memory of…

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Well, on a very sad note, I was extremely shocked and sorry to hear that Heath Ledger passed away yesterday. I’ve been following his career since 10 Things I Hate About You and it’s so sad that he died so young.

Chris Daughtry posted these words about it and I thought that was very kind of him:

Although I do not know Heath Ledger personally, my heart is broken for his family tonight as I hear the news of his death. Maybe it’s because he was my age. It’s always hard when someone dies but it’s even harder when they go so early. So unexpected. So much life left to live. So many things left to do on this Earth….but the main thing that hit me so hard was thinking of his lil girl without her daddy.
My heart hurts for her and the rest of his family. My sincere prayers go out to them as they deal with this life altering time. They’ve suffered a great loss and could use some words of encouragement to offset all the media. Feel free to leave your thoughts and prayers here. Who knows they just might see it and it just might lift their spirit and help them through this tough time.
Good night and God bless-Chris

RIP Heath Ledger

And while we’re on the topic, I was also very sad to hear about the death of Brad Renfro. Although the circumstances were very different, it’s just so sad to see people who I was always a fan of die so young.

RIP Brad Renfro

American Idol… here we go again

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

American Idol
Well, American Idol is back for yet another season. There’s really no way they can find another Chris Daughtry, but hopefully they can at least find better people than they did last year.
I’ve been watching and it’s been thoroughly entertaining but so far nobody has really, really stood out. Although there were a few pretty good ones. It’s a little early but we’ll see how it goes. Then again I did love Chris from the second I saw his audition on the previews…

Anyways, I’m sure you’ve heard of the controversy surrounding Chris’ comments to Rolling Stone magazine, right?
If you haven’t, click HERE for a link to read the transcript and listen to the interview.
What he said was absolutely true and I don’t think he was saying it to put the show down or be nasty. I think he (like the rest of us) would like to see American Idol take it to the next level and step it up because obviously the talent they’re getting is declining from previous years. Sometimes the truth hurts…

Daughtry wins People’s Choice Award

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Daughtry has started 2008 off with a bang! Their song “Home” won a People’s Choice Award for Best Rock Song.
That is such exciting news! Unfortunately they were beat out for Best Group by Rascal Flatts…I disagree with this decision whole-heartedly but such is life I guess.
Congratulations to Daughtry on their win!

On a side note, I was very excited that Patrick Dempsey won for Favorite Male TV Star. I’m going through a bit of a Patrick Dempsey/ Grey’s Anatomy obsession… I’ll get over it.
Patrick Dempsey People’s Choice Awards
Even though this picture is from last year, I couldn’t resist. He’s just as gorgeous as he was last year so it doesn’t really matter does it?
I can’t wait until the writers strike is over!! It is ruining TV! Just give them what they deserve and let’s move on with our lives.

In other news, Daughtry’s music is being spread around lately…
Their song “It’s Not Over” is being featured on the 2008 Grammy Nominees Album
AND
Daughtry’s cover of Elvis’ “Suspicious Minds” is being featured on the soundtrack for the Elvis documentary “Elvis: Viva Las Vegas”.

So, as usual, Daughtry is very busy and their work is paying off. Definitely a great way to start of the new year. We still need to keep our fingers crossed for those Grammy Awards. Hopefully they will continue their success throughout the year just like they did last year.
